‘Looking Up’: Creative Challenge Day 3

In effort to lighten up my poetry, I chose today’s prompt from ‘Metaphysical Lyrics and Poetry of the Seventeenth Century: Donne to Butler’.

I’ll let the reader decide if it worked.

Here’s the prompt (lines 10, 20 and 30 of The Extasie by John Donne);

was all the meanes to make us one

and wee said nothing all the day

(we said) and tell us what we love

And here’s my response;

The storm rolled in

And we said;

‘tell us what we love’

For we did not believe

The rumbling in our own hearts

The storm rolled in

And we said;

‘was all the means

To make us one?’

For we could not conceive

A self-determined fate

The storm rolled in

And we said;

For we had waited

All the day

For something bigger than ourselves

To explain

And through the sky’s own tears

We found that perhaps

We had suffered enough
